On August 2, 2024, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) released a notice to solicit public opinion on the modifications of Cosmetic Safety Standard1. The authority proposed to designate one new UV filter, delete one UV filter, and enhance the usage limits of six restricted ingredients. Details are as follows:

Suggestions are welcome before October 3, 2024. MFDS plans to complete the amendments after collecting public opinions and going through the regulatory review and other subsequent legislative procedures. According to the authority, the modification will be implemented six months after the official regulation publication date. A grace period of two years is given for enterprises to sell cosmetics manufactured or imported before implementing the new regulation. In particular, for enterprises of products containing D5, a three-year grace period will be given to develop alternative ingredients.
