Taiwan Needs Stricter Cosmetic Regulation and Enforcement

The Consumers’ Foundation in Taiwan tested 25 types of perfume and 25 types of nail polish at the Electronics Testing Center and a laboratory in National Tsing Hua University. Among those cosmetics, three perfumes contained di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), including one exceeding the legal limit, while eight products contained diethyl phthalate (DEP), which also poses potential health and safety risks.

India Clarifies Cosmetic Importation and Registration Guidelines

India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organization just published a clarification of the cosmetic importation and registration guidelines on its official website. Clarifications specifically relate to topics like cruelty-free, certificate of Free Sale (CFS), Letter of Authorization (LOA) and renewal of registration certificates.

Gaping Holes in Sri Lankan Cosmetic Regulatory Framework Revealed by Influx of Unregistered Cosmetics

At present there is no law in Sri Lanka to regulate cosmetic products and thus the authorities are relatively powerless once unregistered cosmetics are found circulating in the market or in use in salons or beauty parlors. Currently there is no legal basis allowing authorities to take legal actions against those violating cosmetic regulations even in cases where a consumer is harmed or killed due to use of unregistered cosmetic products.

The Ministry of Health Uncovers 4 Cosmetics Adulterated with Illegal Substances in Brunei

The Ministry of Health Brunei has issued a public alert declaring that four cosmetic products have failed safety testing by the laboratory of Drug Quality Control Section, Department of Pharmaceutical Services Ministry of Health. The products were found in retail outlets during post-marketing surveillance activities conducted by the Pharmacy Enforcement Section.

Guangdong cosmetics regulation innovation seminar was held a month ago. During the seminar officials from local and national FDA’s provided progress updates and data related to implementation of cosmetic regulations, supervision and enforcement work in Guangdong from January to July. The interpretation of “Random Checks of Cosmetics Production Enterprises Supervision System Innovation Program” and a discussion on “Guangdong Province Cosmetics Manufacturers Health Permits Implementation Plan (draft)" were also given during the seminar.
