India Implements the Cosmetics Rules 2020

India Encourages Use of Non-animal Alternative Tests

Recently India Ministry of Health & Family Welfare published the notice regarding partial amendment to “Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945”. The amendments are relating to animal toxicity studies and encourage the use of OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) validated non-animal alternatives.

India Clarifies Cosmetic Importation and Registration Guidelines

Breaking Move: India Bans Import of Animal-tested Cosmetics

From November 13 2014, the import of animal-tested cosmetics will be officially banned, according to the notification in the Gazette of India announced by Indian Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The new announcement assures that cosmetics marketed in India will no longer be associated with animal suffering and makes India the first cruelty-free cosmetics zone in South Asia.

India to Formalize Ban of Domestic Animal Testing in Cosmetics

On Jan 13 2014, The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced the draft amendment to the “Drugs and Cosmetics Rules 1945” which proposes to formalize the nationwide ban on animal testing in India’s principal cosmetic regulation. Public consultation will be accepted in forty-five days from the date of publication of this draft.

Stay Current: China’s Cosmetic Safety Assessment Regulatory Landscape
Under the current regulatory framework, cosmetics registrants and notifiers can continue to submit a simplified version of the safety assessment report during the registration or notification process until May 1, 2025. Following this deadline, a full version of the safety assessment will be mandated. To facilitate a smooth transition, China is planning to release a set of technical guidelines.
