Takehome:
To reinforce cosmetic safety surveillance, China National Institutes for Food and Drug Control has decided to revise "Safety and Technical Standard for Cosmetics" which is now open for public consultation.
The revision scope includes prohibited, restricted and permitted ingredients list and testing methods in Safety and Technical Standard for Cosmetics 2015. Suggested revision contents should include revision categories, aims, scope and conditions in China and other countries. Cosmetic associations, enterprise and research institutions are welcome to submit suggestions to NIFDC.
Safety and Technical Standard for Cosmetics 2015 serves as the gold standard reference for cosmetic safety supervision and inspection. It includes explanations of technical terms, prohibited/restricted/permitted ingredients used in cosmetics, physical and chemical, microbiological, toxicological, safety and efficacy evaluation testing methods. In the current standard, the restrictions on certain ingredients are even stricter than in the US. For example, arsenic limitation is 3mg/kg in US, but in China Safety and Technical Standard for Cosmetics, arsenic limitation is 2mg/kg.
Public consultation will last until August 15th 2018, if you have any suggestion, you can send it to us (cosmetic@chemlinked.com) before August 5th 2018. We will sort your suggestion and submit them to authorities on your behalf.
