China Releases the Latest Version of Ingredient Usage Information of Marketed Products

On February 9, 2025, the China National Institutes for Food and Drug Control (NIFDC) officially updated the Ingredient Usage Information of Marketed Products (hereinafter referred to as the “Ingredient Information”), replacing the previous version released on April 30, 2024. The NIFDC also released an accompanying FAQ on this update.

Updates Compared to Previous Versions

The Ingredient Information released on April 30, 2024, includes 2,234 ingredients and 4,415 usage information entries. On November 15, 2024, the NIFDC released the Ingredient Usage Information of Marketed Products (Revised Draft for Public Consultation), which included 3,578 ingredients and 5,240 usage information entries.

The latest update, based on a comprehensive analysis of ingredient information on valid cosmetics registered and notified in China, now includes 3,608 ingredients and 7,672 usage information entries, with additional application areas such as body hair and nails (fingers and toes).

 Updates on Eye Area Usage Information

The amount of usage information entries has increased significantly compared to the November 2024 draft version. By searching for the term “eyes”, the February 2025 version demonstrates a total of 2,172 records, while both the November 2024 and the April 2024 versions show 453 records each.

Information on Eye Area Usage Included in Each Edition of Ingredient Information

According to the Ingredient Information, if the use amount is not provided, the ingredient usage information for whole body skin, trunk area, face, and lips can be adopted, and the ingredient shall undergo a separate eye irritation assessment. The substantial increase in the amount of eye-use information will help reduce the data gap in the evaluation of eye products.
