Guangdong FDA recently conducted its fourth “unannounced” spot inspection of cosmetic traders this year—conducting an additional unplanned random inspection to the three rounds planned in 2015. The inspection targeted five companies and subjected them to a long-term covert technical investigation. The inspection results will be announced shortly and companies involved in any illicit activities will face severe punishment.
The campaign was conducted in collaboration with the local food and drug supervision departments of the four targeted cities--Guangzhou, Zhenjiang, Maoming and Jiangmen where the companies in question are located.
The inspection mainly focuses on illegal addition of prohibited ingredients and overuse of ingredients in whitening, freckle-removing and acne-removing products. Samples have already been taken and on-the-spot punishments have already been issued to the companies lacking mandatory cosmetic registration and recordkeeping certificates.
The inspection is still ongoing and Guangdong FDA aims to use it as a final warning to all cosmetic manufacturers, importers and distributors registered within the province—home to 70 % cosmetic output in China.
