[Updated] Taiwan Revises the List of Micro-organisms Limits in Cosmetics

Taiwan revised the requirements of product category and detection result related to micro-organisms limits in cosmetics.

On Mar. 2, 2021, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) consulted on a draft list of micro-organisms limits in cosmetic products. On September 7, 2021, TFDA released the finalized list.

  • Babies cosmetics, Cosmetics for children under 3 years old

  • Cosmetics applied around the eye

  • Cosmetics applied in contact with the mucosa membranes

Below 100 CFU/g or CFU/mL

Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus or Candida albicans shall not be   detected.

Below 1000 CFU/g or CFU/mL

Note: Text in red indicates a revision or an addition compared with the current list.

The finalized list is scheduled to come into effect from Jan. 1, 2022. Cosmetics manufactured after the date should comply with the new requirements.
