Guangdong FDA Ramps Up Cosmetics Random Inspection Campaign

Guangdong FDA recently conducted its fourth “unannounced” spot inspection of cosmetic traders this year—conducting an additional unplanned random inspection to the three rounds planned in 2015. The inspection targeted five companies and subjected them to a long-term covert technical investigation. The inspection results will be announced shortly and companies involved in any illicit activities will face severe punishment.

Jiangsu FDA Inspection Data Reveals Widespread Adulteration

A special half-year initiative adopted by FDA in Nantong city of Jiangsu Province to investigate and stop the illegal addition of prohibited ingredients has recently been concluded. The results of the inspection indicate that 79.03% of products were compliant with Chinese regulatory requirements

Taiwan FDA Issues Fines for Trade of Facial Masks Bearing Inappropriate Claims

The Consumer Protection Committee in Taiwan purchased 25 facial masks for examination in the greater Taipei area in August this year, and subjected them to testing and analysis. Final results were released yesterday revealing that all products passed inspections for fluorescent agents, microorganisms and preservatives however 14 were mislabeled or exaggerated their effect.

New Pilot Stations Launched for Monitoring Cosmetic Adverse Reaction

The local FDA in Zhuzhou city of Hunan Province has recently launched a pilot program involving the operation of stations specifically designated to monitor adverse reaction from cosmetics circulating in the market. The dermatological departments of both the City Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital and City Central Hospital are the first from the Hunan Province public sectors to be assigned to carry out the adverse reaction monitoring work.

Zhejiang CIQ Blocks Spanish Cosmetics

Zhejiang CIQ recently detained and expelled at its Wenzhou administration zone 72,000 Euros worth of cosmetics from Spain, due to incompliance with relevant Chinese standards. This is first time cosmetics were found below Chinese standard at Wenzhou port.

Consumers Alerted to Avoid Cosmetic without Chinese Label

Regulatory experts had warned that lack of Chinese label for imported cosmetics should be avoided after a local FDA launched investigation into a suspected counterfeit case that allegedly involved hundred batches of Korean cosmetics, following a recent customer complaint where the user suffered from skin rash.

Stay Current: China’s Cosmetic Safety Assessment Regulatory Landscape
Under the current regulatory framework, cosmetics registrants and notifiers can continue to submit a simplified version of the safety assessment report during the registration or notification process until May 1, 2025. Following this deadline, a full version of the safety assessment will be mandated. To facilitate a smooth transition, China is planning to release a set of technical guidelines.
